What is C2PA and Content Credentials?
The Coalition for Content Provenance and Authenticity (C2PA) is an open technical standard developed by Adobe, Microsoft, Intel, Google, OpenAI, Sony, and Leica. Content Credentials provide tamper-evident cryptographic metadata attached to digital media that records who created an asset, what software or AI tools were used, and whether it has been edited over time.
How are Content Credentials stored in video files (MP4, MOV)?
In video files formatted under the ISO Base Media File Format (ISOBMFF, such as MP4 and QuickTime MOV), C2PA manifests are stored inside standardized uuid boxes. These boxes are assigned the official C2PA UUID identifier (d8fec3d6-1b0e-483c-9297-5828877aae48), encapsulating the full JUMBF claim store.
Why does an AI-generated image or video sometimes show “No AI Metadata”?
Not all generative AI platforms attach C2PA Content Credentials. Furthermore, saving an image via screenshot, uploading it to many social media platforms (like Twitter/X, Instagram, or WhatsApp), or converting file formats can completely strip metadata headers. Absence of metadata does not prove a file is human-captured.
Why does signature verification state “Verification Unsupported” in browser?
Web browsers operate in an isolated sandbox and do not include pre-installed C2PA root certificate authorities (unlike the operating system's TLS trust store). While this tool extracts digital signatures and certificates, verifying complete cryptographic trust chains requires checking against external PKI trust lists.
How does this tool complement the Photo Metadata Viewer & EXIF Inspector?
The AI Image & Video Detector & Watermark Remover is engineered specifically for C2PA cryptographic provenance manifests, invisible SynthID watermarks, multi-channel AI generation claims (watermarks, software agents, certificate issuers), ISOBMFF video boxes (MP4/MOV), and Error Level Analysis (ELA). If you are looking for deep camera lens profiles, exposure tags, interactive GPS maps, and one-click EXIF metadata scrubbing for photos, visit the Photo Metadata Viewer & EXIF Inspector.
